October, 11. 2000 INTERNATIONAL USER FORUM in Electronics Design and Test will be organized by prof. Raimund Ubar and PLD center.

Background

BEC 2000, the 7th Biennial Conference on Electronics and Microsystem Technology will be held in Tallinn, Estonia on October 8-11, 2000. Tallinn Technical University has been hosted previous Baltic Electronics Conferences in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1996, and 1998. The aim of the Conference is to promote research and development in the field of electronics and microsystem technology, particularly in the Baltic Sea region.

Conference dates

October 8-11, 2000

Scope and topics

Electronics and microsystem technology are wide-ranging multidisciplinary research fields of rapid growth and expansion.

In the conference BEC 2000 new results in these research fields will be presented and discussed.

Papers are invited on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Electronic Materials and Package Technologies

  2. Semiconductor Devices and Simulation

  3. Integrated Electronics and Chip Design

  4. Instrumentation and System Design

  5. Test, Diagnostics and Fault Tolerance

  6. Telecommunication and Optical Transmission

  7. Biomedical Electronics

  8. Power Electronics

  9. Micromechanical Systems

  10. Education and Training

Oral presentation and poster sessions will be organized.

Language

The official language of the Conference is English, which will be used for all presentations and printed materials.

Venue

Conference site will be Tallinn Technical University, located about 8 km to the south from the Center. There is a frequent city transportation between the university campus and the City.

Historically, Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is quite a unique place. It is because of its medieval old town, characterized by narrow, curved streets and tiled roofs. The first records about Tallinn date back to the beginning of this millennium. During its long and eventful history, Tallinn has been a remarkable center of craftsmen, artists and merchants in Europe, belonging to the Hanseatic League.

Weather

In Estonia, the weather is usually mild in the beginning of October, averaging 10–12 °C in the day-time.

Travelling and accommodation

Accommodation will be available at the hotels Mihkli**, Hermes, Metropol, ExpressHotel**, Central***, Viru***, or Olümpia****. For invited speakers the university guesthouse will be available by request.

Tallinn is best reached from Helsinki and Stockholm by plane or ferry. There are also many international flights from Copenhagen, Frankfurt am Main, Helsinki, London, Moscow, Riga, Stockholm, Vilnius, and other airports.

Information on Conference fee payments, hotel accommodation alternatives, and travel arrangements will be attached to the letter of Acceptance sent on May 1, 2000.

Submission of Papers

Authors are requested to submit three camera-ready manuscripts of four (or two) A4 pages, in English, for evaluation by the Program Committee. Deadline for submission is March 31, 2000, and notification of acceptance will be given before May 1, 2000. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings, which will be distributed to all participants at the beginning of the Conference.

To speed up the evaluation of manuscripts, we would appreciate sending a copy in MSWord format (any version up to 97) and/or PDF file as an e-mail attachment to bec@ttu.ee. Please note that this copy is used for evaluation only, and does not exempt from the request for 3 camera-ready copies mentioned above.

Selected authors will be invited to submit updated manuscripts for the special issue of the Proceedings of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, Engineering. For further information concerning the scientific program and submitted contribution, please contact prof. T. Rang.

Preparation of the Paper

All of the text should be generated using a high-density printer (preferably, a laser printer).

The length of the paper is restricted to exactly four (4) pages, including figures and references. If the presented material is shorter, the acceptable length is exactly two (2) pages in the same format.

The margins around each page should be set as follows:

left = 2 cm, right = 2 cm,

top = 3 cm (5 cm on first page), bottom = 3 cm.

The text of the manuscript must be printed in two columns. Width of each column should be 8.2 cm. The column separation is 0.5 cm.

The first page of the manuscript must contain the title of the paper, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), all centered on the top of the page and spanning both columns. There should be one complete line space between the title, the author names, and the author affiliations. A space of two complete lines is required between the author affiliations and beginning of the main text.

A brief abstract not exceeding 15 lines should appear at the beginning of the paper, on top of the left column.

Please use Times New Roman font and single-spaced typing.
